LOCAL FORT SCOTT SCHOLARSHIPS
Welcome to Firpo.net which features the "Firpo & Patricia Smith Fort Scott Business Scholarship" through the Pittsburg State Foundation as well as through the Fort Scott Community College Endowment Association. Along with rewarding academic achievement, the intent of these scholarships is to help promote the idea of locally-owned small businesses that are vital for the future of Fort Scott. These currently not fully-endowed scholarship funds are 501(c)(3) charities for which contributions to are tax-deductible. All contributions including employer matching gifts are greatly appreciated ... give one-time, monthly, and/or annually at Christmas-time.
Also featured here on this website is a scholarship fund at FSCC for Firpo's cousin Elmer Smith, a long-time welding teacher and Head of Maintenance at FSCC. Also included is the story of J.B. Moore & Sons, a former Fort Scott entrepreneur and business (J.B. is Patricia's grandfather).
In addition, please see the scholarship funds below for local and home-state universities. If you believe that it's important for the Jayhawks and/or Wildcats to compete with our Oklahoma and Texas neighbors in football and others sports, please consider contributing a small amount monthly or annually.
Also, many thanks to the Old Fort Genealogical Society located in the basement of Fort Scott Memorial Hall.
