FIRPO'S WALL OF FAME
CHESLEY SMITH

WALL OF FAME INDEX

Uncle Chesley Smith (1899-1954) served in Europe during WWI and was wounded in battle and awarded the Purple Heart.

Farrell Smith: My dad was issued the Purple Heart while in the Argonne Forest offensive. A soldier froze while going into a trench and my dad threw him into the trench and got shot in the side with a machine gun bullet. The man he saved was named Cheney, his last name. (thought to be Albert Cheney (1896-1950)).

Chesley's twin brother Wesley Smith (1899-1954) pictured here holding a blue-star service flag with
the stars indicating the service of family members Chesley and Clark in WWI. The flag photographed in 2011.

Chesley's funeral at Fort Scott National Cemetery #1 June 21, 1954.
Pallbearers from right: Howard, Firpo, Bill, Elmer, and Neil.
